LA BALBUZIE OGGI, by Oskar Schindler and Pier Giuseppe Carando, is the first training e-book on stuttering to be published in Italy: an innovative formula in which the video part, rich in dialogue and with numerous significant participations by people who stutter or their families, is decidedly preponderant over the written text.
From a single main-topic, the course is divided according to the target audience directly interested in the problem: speech therapists, paediatricians, families and teachers.
Pier Giuseppe Carando is a speech therapist specialised in Stuttering Therapy at the ‘Stuttering Foundation of America’ and at the ‘European Clinical Specialisation in Fluency Disorder’. He introduces us to the project by stating that “in this manual, I have tried to collect and recount more than 35 years of work with people with stuttering and their families, teachers, educators. The aim, hopefully achieved, is to properly provide all those interested in the problem of dysfluency/stuttering (neurological or acquired stuttering is not addressed here) with a body of up-to-date, reliable, practical and concrete information and data”.
“The text is wide-ranging and detailed, but with a concise and approachable style; the clarifications contained in the audio/video clips are also of great and irreplaceable help. My personal and strong motivation was to share experiences and ideas with those who read and use this manual. The treatment of stuttering is a complex area that often leads to confusion; with Prof. Schindler, we have made a choice of field, which may therefore present biases or inaccuracies, but which has the advantage of clarity – we hope – and applicability”.
